little snapshots of a mod i have been working on for a few days, cenozoicraft, understandably based around adding cenozoic animals to the minecraft world along with neolithic tools. its heavily based around hunting and utilizing animal parts. most of what is here is tamable and rideable with fun little taming mechanics, so dont expect to be able to waltz up to a smilodon. more to come soon

What draws me in me is the setting, artstyle and morbidity to it, I'm not partial to any character in particular! If I have to pick one, I was mostly interested in Pav. What I have gathered from watching a few scenes of Hamlet adapted into film is that some usually fail at soliloquies- or more like, they take away the crucial element that makes it so entertaining, which is the breaking of the fourth wall. The soliloquy may be Hamlet talking to himself or thinking but- and that is the important thing- in its original theatre version Hamlet tends to talk to the audience.

It’s usually why long monologues work in plays- in my limited experience, my monologue (in another play, but it was quite a similar emotional journey) became so much better when I interacted with the audience. When I told them about my pain, asked them questions and ultimately spiraled because I started accusing them, the only people in the play that were actually listening to me but not doing anything. And it slaps so bad. It’s so great. They become part of it. That’s the element that makes it so hard to look away.

When you take that away in adaptations? Raw text, the actor just talking to themselves?

Eh, can be done right but there’s a great risk it’ll be extremely boring.

I’m gonna hazard a guess and say that people not only liked BBC’s Hamlet with David Tennant so much because well, he’s David bloody Tennant but because they kept those elements. Hamlet talks to the camera. He glances at it. And it’s just- wow.

Like, why would you take that away? We know traditional immersion in film, but „theater“ immersion in film is so much more fun. Just the main character yapping and glancing at you can make everything a whole lot less boring and more… magnetic I guess? Also it has a certain charm. People loved Fleabag, and Fleabag converted the original element of Fleabag talking directly to the audience to talking to the audience through, well, the camera.

Just saying, adapt more plays into film in a way that keeps the spirit of it being performed as a play, and I don’t only mean the fourth wall! Don’t strip the spirit of that „play energy“ and press it into a bland regular movie mold!

Point is, if I were to try to adapt Hamlet into a film medium I fucking would make him talk to the audience. Roll his eyes at us when Polonius is talking for too long.

Grin and shoot a glance at us when making a stupid joke.

Asking us, the audience in his soliloquies.

Maybe make the normal interactions fairly regular and soliloquies the original, long and eloquent speeches. Very much „me constructing an argument in my head vs. me actually talking“

And maybe we won’t realize that while he seems to bare certain parts only to us, he’s also overplaying it to us (himself?). Because he’s denying shit! And maybe, just maybe when there’s blood on his hands he’ll look up at us and we’ll realize we also have been tricked by him and that he might just be a little bit insane.

Shit, let Hamlet talk to the audience!

underrated thing about wang baoxiang is how utterly pathetic he is. intentionally provokes his brother every time they interact because having esen be mad at him for something he did on purpose is easier than being vulnerable and then is like how could esen think i hate him :(( goes around rolling his eyes at all these Idiots who don't consider the Needs of the Common Folk and then gets grossed out whenever a servant dares to speak to him. constantly thinking about Hot Men Exercising and how much they all want to fuck each other probably. hasn't emotionally matured past the age of fifteen (he is twenty-three). thinks of himself as a Character instead of a person so much that he gets surprised whenever the things he did for their narrative significance have actual real consequences. while being quite literally haunted by a specter of his own guilt is like hm what could this mean. well time to not sleep for another 36 hours. kills people and then throws up about it and then goes off to kill more people because surely this is the one that will fix everything right. wants to be punished for what he's done because it's the closest he can get to admitting he feels remorse. looks for his brother everywhere but only ever finds himself.

which of course culminates with him stalking miserably through the hallways looking for someone to be mad at because there needs to be someone else responsible for making his life suck but there isn't anymore because no one has power over him anymore. and he can't go back but tries to convince himself that he doesn't want to because he also needs to see himself as being In Control of Everything That's Ever Happened to Him. he wanted it all along and he likes it here actually. and he won fratricide chicken and got himself tortured and tried to show mercy and did every evil dishonorable thing and now he just has to live with it all forever. loser!!!!

not that anybody cares, but here are my brief thoughts on the update:

the idea is interesting, and i'm glad that none of the current effects are too expensive (the treasure effects are pretty affordable and the gem ones are still less expensive than most genes). i do find it a little frustrating that the majority are gem effects. as with any update it already has its bugs and little issues, hopefully those will get fixed soon. i am a little cautious about my interest in it because the animation aspect is pretty new for the site and, given that its brand new, its hard to imagine it being a normal thing that sticks around (and i, as a still relatively new player, am now wondering if this is how it felt for every other age old update thats now a perfectly normal part of the game)

on a more personal note im struggling to like it because i just dont like having a New Thing and having minor things, like the customization menu and the little "skin – scene" icons on a dragons page, change. i also cant help but wish they had done any of the myriad QoL updates and suggestions players have been throwing around for ages rather than something ive never seen anyone think of

My most unpopular Zelda opinion is that I sincerely think LOZ is at its worst when it's trying to tell some serious epic fantasy story. Like nobody agrees with me on this but it's a hill I'll die on.
